About This Design

The mark traces the Central waterfront as seen from Kowloon, rendering the city and sky as two fields divided by the skyline. The sky is the page itself, allowing the mark to remain open rather than enclosed in a frame. From east to west, the silhouette moves from Wan Chai and the Hopewell Centre to Central Plaza, Admiralty, Lippo Centre, the Bank of China Tower, Cheung Kong Center, HSBC, Jardine House, Exchange Square, Two IFC, and One IFC. Distinctive architectural details, including the Bank of China Tower’s braces and masts, HSBC’s suspended floors and roof cranes, Jardine House’s round windows, and Two IFC’s crown and mullions, remain legible at larger sizes.

The drawing changes with scale much as a typeface changes across optical sizes. Two IFC carries nine crown fins at 150 px and above, five at 64 px, three at 40 px, and a plain cap at smaller sizes. Fine details such as ladders and windows recede at the same thresholds, preserving the skyline rather than forcing detail beyond the point at which it can be read.
